About
Josef Albers is a designer and painter known for his series of color explorations titled "Homage to the Square". This brief called for a museum exhibition identity for a gallery show of Alber's work. The challenge was to create something that was visually cohesive across a variety of print applications to bring out of home viewers into the gallery.

This identity is centered around a single logotype of Albers' last name inspired by the same concepts that underly his work. Research into these concepts informed early sketches and established an objective basis for feedback and refinement.

Identity System
Identity System
After two marks were approved for application, a visual system was developed around both. This system continued to rely heavily on the concepts that drove Albers' work in the same manner as the logotype. A custom typeface was developed with a color palette once one of the two directions was approved.

Collateral
Collateral
With the identity and system approved, work began on collateral to accompany the exhibition. The primary piece for this was a 70-page hardcover coffee table book detailing the life and work of Josef Albers. In the same manner as the logo and system build out, heavy inspiration was taken from the works of Albers' most famous pieces.
